Born on April 2, 1979, in Rupandehi, Lumbini, Prof. Amit Thapa is a distinguished neurosurgeon renowned for his groundbreaking contributions to the field in Nepal. He holds an MBBS, an MS in General Surgery, and an MCh in Neurosurgery, and he is an International Fellow of the American Association of Neurosurgical Societies, having completed specialized training in brain and spine endoscopy.
As a pioneer in his profession, Dr. Thapa has introduced advanced techniques such as fluorescence-based micro-neurosurgery, robotic surgery, endoscopic skull base surgery, and minimally invasive spine surgery, significantly transforming neurosurgical practices in Nepal. He has also played a vital role in incorporating Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) into neurosurgery and the neurosurgical ICU, enhancing patient care and outcomes.
His clinical expertise includes leading the largest series of brachial plexus injury repairs in the country. In addition to his surgical accomplishments, Dr. Thapa has contributed extensively to medical literature as the chief editor of the Nepal Journal of Neurosciences. He has held several leadership roles, including Chairman of the Spine Section and Vice-President of the Nepalese Society of Neurosurgeons (NESON).
Currently residing in Nepal, he is supported by his spouse, Prof. Dr. Deeptara Pathak Thapa, and together they are proud parents to their two children, Aadit and Aadvika.
